FilmFile is, I guess, version 4.0 of my reviews website. A brief history follows...

  • The Beta test - In 2000 I set up a template film reviews site on the Yahoo Geocities network. As you can imagine, it was very basic. I titled this Foxbat's Films (I used the online tag of Foxbat back then)
  • Version 1.0 - In 2001 I purchased my first domain. Struggling for names for movie reviews sites i settled on the long-winded, but self explanitory, UKMOVIEREVIEWS.CO.UK. For Uk Movie Reviews I used free hosting space from my (then) ISP. Using a basic frames template it was a start of where I could go with the site, and included recent reviews, classic reviews, and the occasional feature (or rant)
  • Version 2.0 - After a good year or so I decided that free ad-supported webspace was just not cutting it, so sought domain space. Rather than using the Ukmoviereviews domain, I bought out a new domain - movingpictures.me.uk. With this domain I sectioned out my various sites (personal sites, forums, etc) and began to build up a new site. Again I used templates for the reviews, and built an index. The forum was a seperate entity, linked to the primary site.
  • Version 3.0 to 3.5 - Soon I realised I wanted more flexibility, and looked to using content management, SQL based software for the site. For a while this was Xoops based, before eventually becoming Postnuke based. The Postnuke based engine itself went through quite a few alterations over time, before switching to another portal solution. this, unfortunately, fell apart due to instablility issues, and so I slowly reverted back to the old Postnuke site, and focussed purely on building the AtoZ aspect.
  • Version 4.0 - This site, a wiki based engine. I had pondered the idea of using a wiki for a while. the cross referencing aspect, indexing, and other features intrigued me so i gave it a shot. After playing around for a while with the settings and templates options I realised that it was, indeed, the ideal way to standardise my reviews, and still allow other branching off aspects to exist alongside. Over time the site will build and grow, and I plan to add more front-end features once I have converted my back catalogue of reviews over.

As for who I am....well, no longer do I go by the 'foxbat' identity. Generally I tag myself Meako these days, but here you may call me Andy. That info box to the side....that's me :)
